Counselling and How It Helps
Counselling provides space to pause, reflect, and find clarity when life feels overwhelming. It can support people facing all kinds of challenges including: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, low self-esteem. My approach is solution-focused and practical, helping you identify what’s holding you back and find ways forward.
Therapy and Progress
I adapt therapy to suit individual needs, drawing on a range of proven techniques. Progress is measured in practical outcomes: reduced distress, greater clarity, improved coping and stronger relationships. Therapy length varies, depending on what feels right for you, but the emphasis is always on effectiveness.
The Human Givens Approach
The Human Givens model recognises that well-being depends on meeting both physical and emotional needs — such as security, connection, achievement, and meaning. When needs are unmet, difficulties arise. The approach focuses on practical steps to restore balance, using innate resources like imagination, memory, problem-solving and resilience. It draws from the best methods across psychotherapy, aiming to reduce suffering quickly and effectively.

What Makes an Effective Counsellor
A counsellor should be respectful, trustworthy and able to adapt to different people and situations. I believe therapy works best when it feels safe, focused, and collaborative. My role is not to “fix” people, but to provide perspective and tools that help clients find their own way forward.
My Background
I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and coach with more than 25 years of professional experience. My qualifications include a Human Givens Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) and a BTEC Level 5 in Therapeutic Counselling. I have also gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.Alongside my clinical work, I have been a therapist supervisor for many years, supporting other counsellors in developing their practice. Supervision provides a structured space for therapists to reflect on their work, maintain professional and ethical standards, and ensure clients receive safe, effective care. My career has included work in the NHS, neurodiversity, brain injury rehabilitation, special needs education, charities and mindfulness training. These experiences inform a broad, flexible approach to counselling that respects each person’s individual circumstances.
The Human Givens model recognises that we all have essential physical and emotional needs, as well as the inner resources to meet them. Distress arises when these needs are not met — and therapy helps restore balance using practical, evidence-based techniques designed to bring relief quickly and effectively.
